Question

Anonymous asked: what have you ever done to help people? benefit shows don't count. too easy.

On a macro level, I’ve given to charities, I’ve done benefit walks, things of that nature. On a personal level, I did some work for the homeless years ago, I’ve helped people move, I’ve tried to be nice to people despite how they treat me (though some people make this very hard and I end up failing). And why don’t benefit shows count? It’s not like anyone is forced to play them or anything.

This sounds almost accusatory, like my previous statement would be somehow invalid because “What have you ever done?” Which is on one level pretty rude, and on another pretty cynical and counter to the spirit of what I was trying to (clumsily) say. I’m trying to work on this whole “being positive” thing, and negativity like that is what makes it hard for me to reconcile my optimistic viewpoint with the pessimistic reality. So, y’know… thanks?
